"Romeo and Juliet" is a tragic play by the English poet and playwright William Shakespeare, first published in 1597, and subsequently printed and published in three other versions in 1599, 1609, and 1623, with various differences in the text. The 1599 printing is considered the most common version in modern editions. Shakespeare's literary productions, including "Romeo and Juliet," have been translated into over 100 languages, including Arabic, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Korean, Japanese, and others. Shakespeare's works were used in the production of seven artistic works in Arabic between 2004 and 2015. It is worth noting that the famous English actor Richard Burbage played the role of Romeo in the first performance of the play, while Robert Goffe played the role of Juliet. Shakespeare drew inspiration for his story from an epic poem by the English poet Arthur Brooke, titled "The Tragical History of Romeo and Juliet," which Brooke in turn adapted from a story by the Italian writer Matteo Bandello.
